About petanque in Washington state

There are several active pétanque clubs in the Puget Sound area— the Seattle Petanque Club, the Edmonds Petanque Club, and the Port Townsend Pétanque Club. The Walla Walla club is also active.

Sundays at 1:00 pm, year round, at the Bellevue Downtown Park, 10201 NE 4th St, Bellevue, WA 98004, behind Alvin Goldfarb Jewelers (map) Bellevue is an eastern suburb of Seattle, just across Lake Washington from downtown Seattle. The control table will be located just inside the park's east entrance, which would be at 3 O'clock on the walking circle around the park. This access point is just off the west side of Bellevue Way, behind Goldfarb Jewelers. Parking is very limited there, so we recommend parking in the garage on the west side of the Bellevue Square Mall. Spaces are almost always available on the ground level, south side, adjacent to NE 4th Street. Cross 4th at the light, bear left and down towards the east entrance of the circle.

On Saturdays at 1:00 pm you may find us on the large gravel areas of Lake Union Park in Seattle, on the south side of the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) (map)

Edmonds - Edmonds Petanque Club

• Edmonds is about 17 miles north of downtown Seattle.
• The Edmonds Petanque Club may be the largest petanque group in the greater Seattle area.
• We play at the Edmonds Civic Playfield, 230 6th Ave N, Edmonds, WA 98020. It is located about half a mile inland (east) of the Edmonds/Kingston ferry. Take Main Street toward the ferry and turn north onto 6th Ave. (map)

• We teach and play pétanque around the Salish Sea in the bio-region of Cascadia. We extend membership to other parts of the country because, for us, Cascadia is as much a philosophy as it is a physical place. Many of us gather at the Pourhouse Taproom piste in Port Townsend, WA.

• Enter park by proceeding north from the intersection of Cherry Street and W Street.
• Once you're inside the park, the street name becomes Fort Worden Way.
• Turn left at the first stop sign, onto Eisenhower Ave.
• Take the first right, onto NCO row.
• Boulodrome is one block up on the left.

Bainbridge Island - Bainbridge Island Players

• Bainbridge Island is just west of Seattle, across Puget Sound.
• Garret Veley was the prime instigator of the creation of a petanque terrain at the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center in 2015.
• There are regular classes and play at the Senior Community Center in Waterfront Park (map)

Seattle (Eastlake ) - Eastlake Boulodrome Park

• Eastlake Boulodrome Park (map) was created in 2006 using 100-year-old granite curbs recycled from Pioneer Square and funding provided by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. Although it was designed to be a petanque boulodrome, neighborhood residents now use it to play bocce. They are completely unfamiliar with petanque. (Reported by Stephen Ferg, August 2019)

• Walla Wall is about 250 miles east of Portland, Oregon. From Portland take I-84 east to Pendleton, OR then turn north. We're just north of the Washington/Oregon state line.
• We play at Tetulia Cellars Vineyard, 1564 Whiteley Rd, Walla Walla, WA 99362 (Map).
• We play a every Sunday at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, weather permitting. Our terrains are on the north side of the building. Please park behind (west) of the building.
• The WWPC was formed in 2006 and started playing at Tertulia Cellars Vineyard in May, 2015.

Republic - Honky-Tonk Petanque Tournament (annual fall event)

• The town of Republic is located near the Canadian border, about 300 miles NE of Seattle and about 140 miles northwest of Spokane.
• The tournament is held at the Northern Inn, 852 South Clark Avenue, Republic, WA 99166 (map)
• The "Marcus Ciais Memorial Honky-Tonk Petanque Tournament" began in 2007 as a way to honor Marius Ciais who helped his sons Rolland and André on their paths toward business ownership. Marius loved petanque, traveled all over California to play, and even had a small court in his backyard.

Aberdeen - Westport Winery Garden Resort (terrain)

• We're on the Pacific Coast, north of Portland, about 120 miles southwest of Seattle.
• Restaurant open daily for lunch, Fridays and Saturdays for dinner (info)
• Boules are available to play at the winery.
• In 2016, Vineyard & Winery Management magazine named Westport Winery among its Top 20 Most Admired Wineries in North America. In 2015 Westport Winery was voted as the Best Wine Tour by Seattle’s KING 5 Evening Magazine.
• In May 2021, a fire destroyed the winery's distillery. The structure was insured, and the family said it plans to rebuild and resume spirit production. The tasting room, the Sea Glass Grill, and the International Mermaid Museum are on a different part of the estate; they and were not threatened by the fire and remain open for daily business.
